Results NSW State Champs 2018

The 2017-2018 Arrow catamaran State Titles were held over the weekend at Port

Ten boats turned up for the event from clubs from Grafton to Newcastle.

The racing was mostly short courses making the starts critical. This was probably the only difference in the final results with Frank O’Rourke nailing most of the starts and taking an immediate advantage with the tight course and quick races. Frank won six of the seven races from Rohan Nosworthy who scored six seconds and a first.

This did not reflect the tight contest at the front, as the lead changed constantly. After the first two the racing was very close with Tony Rose beating veteran Gary Powell by only half a point after they shared a dead heat in the final race.

Phil Cavanagh came fifth and improved on the second day in the stronger breeze.

The next three boats sailed by Graeme Smith, Rob Barwick and Nick Powell were also close and finished within seven points, Nick Powell also improving remarkably in the stronger wind.

Dave Winter sailed consistently and a special mention must go to Kelly Miller who is new to catamaran sailing and was trapezing for the first time this weekend. Despite her lack of experience she was always close and mixing it with the rest of the fleet.

Congratulations to all who took part and also to the Port Macquarie Sailing Club who ran an excellent event.
